Step 5- Letters of Inquiry (LOIs)

LOI Submission To Grant Funders – Letter of Inquiry

As you can see, the grant-seeking process requires a number of steps that must be carefully followed in order to produce the best results. As an initial approach, most grant-makers require that you submit a letter of inquiry. This is to determine if your business or organization aligns with the grant-makers’ mission and goals. Letters of inquiry are generally less than three pages and must be concise in depicting your organizations objectives. It is necessary at this stage to have a clear goal in mind, as well as a general budget outline to determine the amount of funding required. As the grant process is very formal, the objective of submitting a letter of inquiry is to persuade the grant-maker to invite you to prepare and submit a formal proposal.

Writing a letter of inquiry doesn’t have to be a complicated part of the process, in fact, it should be one of the easiest parts of the process.  We have an article that specifically discusses how to write one with an explanations of the “hows” and “whys”.  If you need more information on how to write yours please click the link here: Letter of Inquiry
