Who Can Get Minority Small Business Grants

Anyone can get minority business grants so long as they are a minority. Other requirements that need to meet include U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age, and detailed plans on how the money will be used. A full business plan is recommended, and an application and eligibility form must be filled out. The amount of money given to each individual business can range from $20,000 to $50,000 depending on what the scope of the business is.

Many different grants abound, and upon searching through the database of available grants, it’s important to identify certain things. For instance, upon searching for minority business grants available to minority business owners, some states offered more money than others. Iowa and Illinois for instances are offering small business that are owned 51% or more by people minority, women, or disabled can receive financing up to $50,000 of the total of any given project. Some grants are bundled with small business loans that must be paid back, but they are traditionally paired with a low interest rate. Funding varies from state to state and county. Some grants are very specific in nature and are only given if certain requirements are meant. This can be seen greatly in states that have a high need for particular vocations. Idaho, for instance, recently gave small business owners a boost for introducing jobs that would employ people with degrees in library arts. A good rule of thumb is to look for local funding and regional organizations that help create opportunities for minorities to get inspired and start small businesses. Creating opportunity in the area is the #1 goal of small business grants, especially from the federal government.
